Heavy handle what is it?

I found this on the surface in a permission field that had a three ringer and buckle within 10 feet of it. Not sure if it has anything to do with those items as it seems it was a possible camp. I didnt have time to dig several other deep signals in the general area. It looks like a handle to something. The thin piece on top is broken off. There is writing on it. A big R and some numbers. It looks old and is heavy.

I don't think it's a handle, rather a full tension copper wire splice. Should be a hole in both ends for inserting wire.

There is a hole on the other end. So that is copper wire stuck in the top. That would explain the surface find. Thanks for the help.
