My brother found this in the area where He got an 1876 seated dime and an 1863 fatty IHP. It rang up like a quarter, is the size of a quarter and has the weight of a quarter, so we think it is a quarter. It obviously has been in a fire. Can anyone see anthing that will ID it?

It's a heartbreaker alright. The second photo, if you rotate it, seems to match the wing tip and arrows of a seated liberty quarter.

For reference:

I think you are right. I can see the tips of the three arrows. Can you see the mintmark?

It's my brother's first Seated Quarter. At least he can say he has found one now.

Definitely Seated- nice find!!

I know exactly how he feels - still a great find !
Here's what the fire damaged 1880 Morgan Dollar I found last Winter looks like.
Gives a new meaning to the term - "Melt Value" :BangHead:

That always hurts ! I once found a Barber quarter that had been in a fire. I could at least identify it, but it didn't help my disappointment at all.

Certainly it would be graded as extremely poor condition 😢
Still an old silver recovery and a first for your brother.

I have 4 quarters that have met the same fate.

Very Cool!!! It’s definitely been in a fire or something!!! Congrats!!!

Still a lot better and worth more than a pull tap.

any silver is good silver. It’s unfortunate the condition though.

Nice find but Ron would all the lettering UNITED STATES OF AMERICA be erased ?
