To start with, I don't seem to find many quarters and larger diameter coins. So todays first find is still a good find for me.

Got home from work and decided to hit the yard before playing mechanic on the Ranger. My house burnt down in the 70's and was then rebuilt on a bunch of fill, so in two years I havent found anything pre-64 close to the house even though the homestead was founded in 1876.

I recently tilled a new spot for the garden and decided with the fresh rain I would give it a shot. First signal rang up .25-.50 (Ace250 for now) kept bouncing back and forth. I was intriqued but not excited, I have dug several things hitting that signal that was just large iron on edge. Anyway up pops a thick heavy larger than quarter round piece. It looks completely smooth with the mud. So I walk over to a mud puddle and dip the coin and rub an edge. First number is 17 then I get the 76. Now I am shaking, what have I found. I kick my boots off hurry to the kitchen sink and wash the rest.

Yep by now you have probably guessed it. A Kennedy bicentennial, not the super old I was thinking....lol....jokes on me. Still its my first half dollar and the adrenaline rush was fun.

Very Nice!!!! My birth year! Good find! Guess I'll have to get my tiller out and see what I can pull up from the depths of my garden.

Great find! It's surprising what we can find on our own property. HH

Well you have me beat! I've found two modern clad dollar coins but never a half dollar no matter what the year.

You can still spend it at least. But really, it's still a good find...I have never found one myself.

Good find, very exciting!
