My buddy and I walked some river bank yesterday. He found an interesting triangle. We went on to find 6 or 7 nice pit or "nutting stones". Towards the end of the evening I looked down and spotted this. Fresh break and super fine. Would have been a really nice gorget. I searched in vein for the rest. I believe a quad was responsible for its demise as there were tracks all over the beach.

Jon, I guess it does thin a lil towards the edges. I am at work and do not have it in front of me. I do think it could have been a pendent. I will show it to ya next time we meet up. No sign of holes either........which is guess would point towards pendent.

Jon, yeah it would have been sweet. Maybe LL88 will find the rest of it. If he does I think he should be a nice guy and give it to me. The break is super fresh. Shucks. Guess I should work on my spelling as well. Pendant, Pendant, Pendant...........

to find it broke sucks, would have been a nice piece.i hate when i walk up on a gravel bar or river bank and see 4 wheeler tracks all over the place.i have imagined how ticked i would be to find a nice artifact like your find, that may have been destroyed like that.would be nice if your bud found the other half.thx for sharing the pic

Greg, You are certainly right about the quads. It seems most every bank that I walk in has tracks in it. I found a 3 1/2 inch Hopewell (perfect........probably the finest point I have ever found) a few inches from quad tracks. I would have been sick had it gotten run over and broken. I do not want to sound like a hippy but, those tnings are awful rough on the earth. Do you come across much slate up your way? I would think you would.

there is alot of banded slate in my area,i have found many broken pieces of bannerstones,pendants,etc....never anything close to being close to whole.you are right about the quads being rough on the earth,i feel the same as you.I always get a tude when i am hunting a creek and all of the bars are covered in quad tracks, but i try to stay positive and hope maybe they mite dig up something that i wouldnt have found with out there help.lol.you got lucky on that hopewell you found, would like to see it sometime.you have posted some awesome stuff here so to see your best point would be a treat.

Greg it is the black point on the far left. 3 1/2 inches. I love the Dove as well (found it last summer) but, that black Hopewell is my favorite.

Wow man! See those big beautiful points in your hand makes me want to sell the house and move to Ohio!!!!

That's a shame on the broken Pendant. That would have a dandy. We don't find a lot of slate down here along the river, but most of the ones I have found are just like yous, a half of one.

Steve, no kidding man. I have a half dozen gorgets that were broken at the hole. What drives me nuts is that this came from the river and had it not been for a four wheeler, probably would have been whole.
