Heart pendant but made of what?

I figured I'd throw this one on here as the last of my jewelry look-ups. It was my wife's grandmother's and I have no idea what it's even made of so my searching has been less than satisfactory. What it sounds like when tapped is porcelain but then again, with the coating, it could be wood for all I know. Seemed Victorian in style but still haven't found anything on this. There is no date, writings, etc... and I would imagine an enamel type covering? :dontknow:

Thanks!

Paul

I haven't found anything on it as of yet. I have to admit though, It doesn't seem as heavy as porcelain and took a little porcelain lid we have, about the same size and the weight difference seems to be quite a bit. The heart just doesn't feel dense enough to be porcelain. It seems it would be heavier than a wood heart but not quite so much as porcelain either. Does that make sense? It's hard to describe but once again, the density doesn't seem to fit.

Thanks again,

Paul

Hold it up to a 100wt. light bulb. If you can see light through it, it's bone china. If you can't see light through it, and the surface is more rough than smooth, and it has some weight to it, it could be bisque china. If you can't tell whether it is glass or not, do a scratch test with a piece of quartz, if the quartz 'bites' it, it's some type of glass/china/porcelain, if not, it could be paper mache. If a magnet sticks to it, it's painted tin., steel or nickel. Heat a sewing needle over a candle (held w/pliers), if the hot tip pierces it, and it smells like grass, it's probably wood. If all of the above fails, it's an alien from outta space! LOL :laughing7: Breezie

Amazing! Yep, I can see light through it and it's smooth, no magnet stuck to it, must be bone china.
Wait... what's that light in the sky? :o :D

I will begin a new search immediately, not for extra terrestrial life but bone china.

Thank you! :hello2:

I think you have a very nice lucite pendant.

Here's an example of lucite earrings, of the same era (if I'm correct)

I've collected quite a few examples of reverse-carved lucite myself, but not seen many/if any of these, but they exist.

Thanks Mike. I have been searching using lucite and all sorts of combo searches and so far, your suggestion brought me closer to what I have, however, nothing close enough to say, oh, that's what it is. :-\ I can't find origin, make, type, nothing so far which is very odd. So far though, I think you may be correct with the lucite suggestion. I will do more searching tomorrow on lucite types and see what comes about.

thanks again! :icon_thumleft:

You're right PChammer. This is not an easy one to search for :icon_scratch:

Found one similar to yours, however no info on the piece:

Thanks, I found that one too when searching the ivory types and it is closest to what I have but I admit, it just doesn't feel like ivory. :dontknow:

Agree, I don't think either one is ivory. Only posted it as was the only 'close' match I could find. I think it is some type of porcelain/china, however the search is rather difficult as many jewelry pieces were made with broken china pieces.

As I've mentioned in other posts, just to recap, I don't have an antique dealer here and the ones we HAVE had were, well, rip off artists I guess I could say. I would have to drive hours to find a reputable dealer and cannot do that currently so when it's hard to find an item online, it's virtually impossible for me to get info unfortunately. I will do some more searching though and do appreciate the help!

I think the green check is premature :D We may not be able to find an exact match, however it should be possible to establish what it's made of :icon_thumright: Some type of china?
