I found this shell at what I suspect is a mid to late 1800's site, nobody seems to know anything about a structure ever being there and in maps going back to 1904 there is no building marked, but there is a lot of material in the ground, ceramics, flatware, buckles, an axe, decorative buttons, recently I found a small brass bell. an oldtimer claims its dump but there is a draw right next to the hill that I find things on, considering all the other dumpsites around are in draws I dont know why this one would be on a hill... anyway
I found this shell and initial research was telling me 1920's ish but all of the shells were climax not new climax, initially I thought that new climax must be younger than climax. then I stumbled across this from Turtle Foot who I take as a very reliable source.
"Can You post a pic of the New Climax headstamps? That is one of the rarest and earliest US headstamps that there is!"
this was in response to a person also hunting a mid to late 1800's site. now I dont know what to think.
