They are different things. Unlike, say, an FM radio that works at ~100MHz, most detectors operate at ~10kHz, which happens to be in the audio range. But the detector frequency refers to the electromagnetic waves, and has nothing to do with the audio section. An AM radio at 1MHz and an FM radio at 100MHz both put out the same audio frequencies. So does a detector at 1kHz or 20kHz.

P.S.--The lowest RF frequencies for detectors is ~2kHz (Fisher 1280x I think), although some pulse detectors run down to 100Hz or so.
 

Bob, I believe you meant 1.5 Khz to 20 Khz for the detectors frequency? This is normal. Also the frequncies the detector uses to detect do not determine the output frequency you hear from the device. 200 HZ to 20,000 is the range that humans can hear, 200 HZ is a real low sound and 20,000 HZ is real high. Nice and simple for you?
