I'm heading to Cleveland,Texas which is just a short distance north of Houston on business and I'll be there for about 10 days. I would sure like to look for points while I was there especially since I'll be in a different state. I did some searching on the net and found out that just a little west of Houston there are outfits where you can pay to dig for artifacts. Have any of you had any experience or heard anything about any of them? I'll appreciate any info.

I've read of people going to "pay and digs."
Even if you dig you can still find things that
others discarded and didn't want to take back.

Hi PMan, There are places near there where you can pay to dig. I know a guy that might be able to help. I'll ask him later & PM you.

Molly.

Plehbah, while I understand your concern about the integrity of archeological sites and the information that can be gained from them, in the state of Texas, every piece of land and waterway is owned, either by private individuals or the state...Including the waterways...as a member of austindiggers, I've had the opportunity to dig sites that otherwise I wouldn't be able to get on. we do care about the information as much as the other people on this site, you will see alot of insitu photos and explanation of the site found on that website...
Austindiggers does not charge anyone for the privilege of digging, that is up to the landowner...sorry for the rant...
