Heading to Destin the 2nd week of March for a short vacation and plan on doing some detecting on the beach while I'm there. Looking for some advice on local laws, know the state and federal parks and dunes are off limits but what about shallow water detecting? Seen quite a few videos of people wading in the water detecting and see conflicting info on that. Also what beaches are permitted? Destin, Ft Walton etc. taking a Minelab Xterra Pro and AT Pro to detect with. Thanks in advance.
Our Family was there in Dec / Jan and I hunted the beaches no problems, but not much was found on the beach, I use a DEUS II and its an excellent machine, and the 3-4 other hunting out there were not find much either.
But I found that they were tearing down an old mill or factory or something off of 1st street SE and Lowery PL SE somewhere back in there there was apparently an old mill, they were doing demolition work there when we were there, and me and my brother in law saw it driving by and I stopped there with him, big lawn area with an old non working fountain and sidewalk, and I pulled 4-5 wheats and a Standing Liberty Quarter 1923 ? from there, if its even there its worth a try if you can find it...
Cross the Chanel bridge from Okaloosa Island and waffle House is on your right,
Going past the Waffle House on Miracle Strip Parkway SE and make a Right back into the neighborhoods and it was a pretty big site they were doing Demo on..
It wasn't posted and nobody seemed to care... there weren't many signals but we got 5 old coins in an hour if your interested in trying to find it...
We live in NC, and we have nothing there in Destin... and have no plans on going back so its fair game for anyone who is in that area..
