Can anyone tell me if this detector is as good as the dual field like I've heard, or anyone here have owned both that can give me a solid review of the Head hunter pulse. Thanks

I have a Headhunter Pulse with the 11" white coil. . When I first got it I loved it although it was a little annoying when set at the threshold It sounded like a siren but it didnt false.. It worked great around saltwater and had very good depth. I made the mistake of putting my head underwater for the first time and it sizzled the electronics losing all my depth and I no longer had a threshold setting. Thats when my problems began. I had to send it back to the factory twice and they said they could find nothing wrong. This was unacceptable. The threshold knob did nothing and they could find nothing wrong?? Finally they agreed to replace the electronics. Now it works but its extremely erratic. But I use it because its all I have and I came to the conclusion that was the best they could do..
Someone suggested to me that I should change to a smaller 8" coil and maybe it wouldn't be so erratic but I guess they dont sell them anymore. My unit is like brand new. I like it but the constant falsing is annoying and its hard to distinguish a real signal from a false one unless I keep passing over the target. A real target will actually go silent for a split second and this is sometimes the method I use. But the depth is good and its not affected by saltwater. I use it surf only because the ear cups wont stay shut. They sometimes fall apart carrying from my car to the beach.
My question does anybody know where I can buy the smaller detectorpro 8" coil and a set or 2 of cable connectors?
Its been a while since I have used it so I will have to get back with you. I dont look at the knob position, i like to set it by ear like I do with any other unit. I like the set the threshold as high as I can for depth, just out of range of my hearing. I cannot sweep the coil to the left or right. I have to keep it very steady and move forward very carefully. I replaced the bolts on my shaft to try and remove any slack. I can turn the threshold down, and it seems better but i loose a lot of depth.I'm curious what settings you use? I think with the 11 inch coil you can't run the full frequency. It's too hot a coil.
Shouldnt you be able to move a coil a little bit without constant falsing? Thanks for the reply. You are the first person that I have talked with that may be experiencing the same constant falsing. If you lift it just a little bit you will get a false signal.

Cheers
I believe I've seen OBN repair a coil that was damaged in a similar fashion (on an Excal). I believe he cut around the fitting from the top, spliced in a new cable, put a new fitting on then epoxied over the splice.
Have you hooked the 8" up to see if it makes any difference from the 11"?
