Detector(s) used
Garrett 1350GTA for dry,Fisher 1280X for wet........
:oI am waitin for my new detector to arrive a Cobra Beach Magnet Detector i bought from Kellyco. Just for the heck of it,I e-mailed Tony @tc metaldetectors.com and asked him about it-found his site on the Web.Basically,he told me they were junk.In his words: "If you havent ordered it yet;DONT!!!!!"Too late-it will be here today.I called Kellyco, informed them what he said. They said they deal with nay-sayers all the time-if you dont like it,return it within 14 days for a trade-up on another one.I asked myself; If they are such poor quality, why the 5-year warranty???He was really outspoken this detector was worthless.I am going to get it and try it out-I will make my decisions on my own assessment, and not be swayed by somebodys opinions. ;)Besides,if I send this back,I also had m\y eye on the Fisher 1280x Aquanaut-that was my 2nd choice-I only paid $250.00 for the Cobra-they said if they will take it back, they will give me 80%credit toward another one of my choice.I think losing$50.00 is a small price to pay if I dont like the Cobra. 8) ::) ???

What other detectors have you owned and how would or what would you compare it to.

One thing you have to watch out for is "MENTAL CONDITIONING".

IF people Convince you Something Isn't that Good, Your always be wondering What your Missing.

SOMETIMES it is Just Sour Grapes.

GOOD LUCK
and HAPPY HUNTING !

Interested in maybe buying one at that price. Are you going to use it in fresh or salt water? Let us know how it works in the water. Thanks!

Im going to use it in both, more fresh than salt though. I will try my grandparents pond tomarow, may have a few old things in the water there, ill let you know how it works ;D

8)OK FOLKS-HERE IS MY IMPRESSION OF THE COBRA BEACH MAGNET!!!!!-----------When I got it yesterday and opened the box,it took less than 15 minutes to decide this was NOT the detector for me.WHY,you ask?HERE IT IS:#1-its made in CHINA.-Now,before anyone accuses me of me being American single-minded,let me say I am not-Minelab,for example-blows the sox off just about everything else-Im sure there are other imports that are great;too.it is not WHERE it was made, but HOW it was made.I am in quality control where I work-SO,when I got home last nite,I looked at it real close and took an objective look at it.This is what I found: #1-The wires connecting the battery pack to the electronics were little bigger diameter than a human hair;also poorly attatched to battery box.#2-the main stem is sturdy tubing;however;the rest is thin plastic;if you dropped it it would break easily.#3-The bracket for holding the control box to the stem is held in place by 4-screws-2 of which on mine were cross-threaded and not seated all the way. #4-The "seals"where the earphones and coil cable attatch to the control box on mine look questionable.#5-the search coil is not 1 piece of completely sealed material-it is open on the bottom and sealed with what looks like epoxy-if you cant get a coil cover for it;the constant scrubbing of the bottom of the coil on the ground or bottom of the lake will open it up-bye-bye coil;not to mention the "seal"where the cable comes out of the coil does not look like a seal,at all. Now;this would be a good detector for a child or somebody just starting that didnt want to spend a lot of money on one.I have had Whites,Garrett, and am sending this back today for a Fisher 1280x water detector.Quality-wise,the Cobra I received does not even come close to the Whites I have got,or the GarrettCX2 I had.It would be a good temporary back up machine, but as your main detector-I would go with the brand names. This is another example that there is truth in the saying:"you get what you pay for." 8)

Steve, thanks much for the info. You just saved me $250. Now I just gotta save for either a Fisher CZ20 or Minelab Excalibur.

If you are looking for reasonably priced water machines, the Tesoro Sand Shark is good, I am pretty impressed with it's quality. Very solid and is easy to use. Runs 543.20 from just about everyone and being a pi, has good depth. Just an opinion, lifetime warranty is also pretty nice.

I guess im used to the quality of the bounty hunter tracker 4, cause this doesnt look that bad in quality :-\ It did look a little unbalanced with the heavy box though, but this is the only model i could afford. I am prolly gonna take it out in the h20 today.

Yes- 8) I sent it back today to Kellyco-I oedered a Fisher1280x Aquanaut-they said being that I didnt like the one I got, they were lowering the price from$623.99 to 599.99-lifetime warranty, too.I have a feeling THIS ones not going back!! 8)By the way, anybody out there familiar with the 1280x? ::) 8)

Steve, did the guy at Kellyco tell you which size coil you're gettin? It comes with either a 8" or 10". The 8 is selling on their website for $599.95 and the 10 is $615.95. In other words if they send you the 8" he didn't give you a deal like he said cause you didn't like the other machine.

I've been doing some research on water detectors and was looking at this. I've read some reviews and it seems like a common complaint that it falses a lot in salt water, but works well in fresh.

I'm starting to lead towards the Fisher CZ20, but expensive. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit to get what I really want instead of the instant gratification of hunting the water with something I get at a lower price then wished I had waited.

Here is a quote from Sandman on the other forum

I had to log in as a newbie but had been waterhunting for over 20 years. I use Minelab's EXCALIBUR 1000, FISHER CZ-20, FISHER 1280-X, and TESORO'S TIGER SHARK. I've used the White's ID beach Hunter but didn't like the way the coil floated. The Excal. 1000 runs around $1,200, Fisher cz-20 the same, Tesoro and Fisher cost near $650.00. Fisher and Tesoro both have Lifetime Warranty. a hugh plus!!!
CZ-20 & Excal. both pinpoint targets, while Tesoro and 1280-x do not, but in the water or sand that is not a problem. The Excal and CZ-20 go the deepest and will work in salt and fresh water at a depth of 200 feet and near the salt shoreline in the black sand. So will the Tiger Shark.
All my machines have paid for themselves with finds and gold and I own eight detectors.
Never buy from E-bay as you may be getting someones machine that was dropped or other wise isn't up to par. If a dealer is near you, go there as they can help and you can talk to a real person and not someone on the phone. If you do deceide on mailorder I suggest you use one of the advertisers that advertise in Western & Eastern Treasures magazine.
Good luck and over lap swings.

8)Oops-Sorry,I forgot to add that I didnt even put batteries in it to try it out-didnt test the performance. As the song says"just one look---is all it took"...........I will let you know when my new Fisher 1280x gets here!!! 8)

I've used all of these machines and more over the last 20+ yrs, (sold most of them)

save your money, spend it wisely, buy the CZ20,

you can't go wrong, and will love it!

Comes with full life-time warrantee.

I'd never be w/o one (unless Fisher can top it)!

PS

I have a pretty much brand new Ex-cal 1000 up for sale for anyone interested (a few months old- hardly used). Still has warrantee card.

$950.00 + s/i cost.
