Hi I am new to this forum and have a few finds that need IDing. Does anyone know what this is? I found this at a colional site in freetown massachusetts, I was thinking hay hook but the handle is odd.
Thanks in advance Kevin IMG_20130823_221854.jpg

If it is a hay hook, it is a type that I've never seen before.

All the hay hooks I've seen and used in my life were much shorter and shaped differently than the one you have pictured.

Looks like a large timber nail that was bent back into the timber to assure that it stayed in place.

I have seen similar hooks. They were called wagon stay hooks, but the square thing at the end was more like a bolt that threaded onto the hook.

Meat hook.
They look just like a hand full, my husband pulled out of the Everglades, from an old slaughter house.
They fit in to a track, so you can "run" the cow around the packing and processing facility.

I can't find pic of "exactly" the same one, this is similar. (Since when ppl hang bales of hay?)

People don't hang bales of hay. Hay hooks are used to carry the bales.

I was thinking hay hook since the only difference between the two was the handle. Maybe for picking it up and throwing it on a cart? Who said anything about hanging the hay? Anyway...if done a little more research on the site. It was an old sawmill beside a river. I found similar log hooks....what do u think?

Ok, maybe a hook to hang tools. If you say it was found at a sawmill, well perhaps some kind of tool/hook used at a saw mill. If you said you found it in a hay barn, well go with hay hooks for $200 Alex, if it had been found at an old slaughter house, I would say, meat hook.
Looks like we might can all agree on a hook. :laughing7:

Could be someone's meat hook, they used at the sawmill, to hang their hay? :laughing7:
