About 20 years I was kayaking south shore of Oahu and I looked down and saw this large bullet thing in about 2' of water. I always wonder what it was and I just recently join this forum and thought one of y'all might know?? The bullet thing is about 2.75" long X 1.25" dia. Looks like it was constructed with two different metals, copper on the sides and something else on the tip. Any help would be great! TIA

Looks to be an old soldiering iron tip

Welcome, fellow Texan. I'm just weighing in because I really have no clue what it is. I would think that the size you indicated would make it too large to be a welding or soldering tip. Also can't tell from the photos what you're seeing that looks like a second metal at the tip. If I had to guess, I'd go with the "bullet thing". Looks like a metal jacket with the inside missing.

Search "sheet metal soldering irons" they make some big ones,... or at least that's what my wife says. I guess it could also be a spent tracer round

Thanks, I'll check that out. Also, I didn't notice, until after I posted, what looks like a small hole near the back end. That could also be a clue, but I have no idea. Texasfred, let us know if you get a positive ID.

that makes me think it's a flag pole finial for a wooden flag pole, like what might be found on a small boat years ago

After using my digital calipers I came up with better dimensions and weight.

weights
108.6 grams or 3.83oz

Measurements
Length 71.17mm or 2.802"
Dia 35.25mm or 1.387"

Here are a couple more pics that shows the different metal on the top. That same metal runs half way down on all 4 "sides"

The hole you spoke of has a matching one on the other side.

I have been searching WWII artillery but have not made a match yet. I'll keep you guys up to date with my findings.
