Just wanted to share with some sympathetic members. A few weeks ago my daughter and I went detecting at a park in my area that has a home from probably the late 1800's in it. We dug some trash and eventually gave up because of the mosquitoes. One of the items was an unidentified squashed thing that I took to be the bottom of a thermos (what made me think of this, I do not know). In any event, I threw it in the trunk of my car and there it lay. I saw it there on Monday when I was putting groceries in the car. I'm sure it was there. This morning, I saw my "whatsis" in someone else's post..I mean, it was the exact same thingy...even folded over and squashed the exact same way. According to this post, it's a civil war era bridal rosette. Now, you have to understand, I have two dream finds: a Roman coin and a Civil War belt buckle. I figured that since I live in the midwest, I would not be likely to find either one of those things. Now, for the sad news: during my lunch hour, I went out to the car and emptied everything out of the trunk. My rosette isn't there. In desparation, I emptied out the rest of the car..you guessed it: Not in the car. I don't think I've cleaned out the car since that day..I just don't know what I did with it. I mean, I never throw anything away..just ask my husband..oh, that's a great idea..I think I'll ask my husband if he knows what happened to my rosette!!

Just called my husband, and he's never laid eyes on it. For so long I've complained about the lack of really cool finds in this area..and then I find something really cool, and what do I do? I lose it. :'(

You can bet I'm going back this evening.

Sorry to hear you're having such a bad day , but don't worry...I bet it
will turn up somewhere :)
If nothing else just do what my wife does on really really bad days...
a big double chocolate brownie and a bottle of merlot wine ;)

i lost a silver ring i found once,, it was in the cab of the truck,, hope ya find it !!

Sorry to hear your story and you are all bummed out as I would be also. Suggestion, I don't know what style car you have but if it is in the trunk, it still may be hiding in the crevace on either side of the trunk. Get your hand in there as it can have a couple inches in depth.

Something similar happened to me but I was looking for a screwdriver. I found it on the drivers side in the crevace that it rolled down into. Just a thought.

time to clean out the trunk! kill two birds with one stone... get all the trash out and double check that the rosette didnt just get hidden by another item back there.

I hit the beach one afternoon about 2 years ago, and threw all the "good" stuff into the cupholder when I got back to my truck and emptied my pockets. Well... one of the small earrings must have bounced out onto the floor. About 2 weeks later, I went out to dinner with my wife... AND SHE FOUND IT ON THE FLOOR. It was awful hard explaining that I'd never seen it before, and didn't know who's it was, or how it got there. ;D

Thank God my wife is understanding (and even more so, that the other, matching earring was still in my pile of finds I hadn't yet cleaned). It was almost a bad YEAR.

too bad about not finding the rosette... did you check with the kids? see if they moved it?

Yes... my wife was very understanding. And she did get a nice pair of earrings, (and 2 rings that wree in my to be cleaned pile)... she made out ok. But the first "conclusion" she jumped to involved me and another woman... It was a long, tense few days until it was resolved

Yup, checked with the kids-my daughter, who was there when we dug the rosette, recognized it in the photo immediately. I guess it got tossed somewhere along the line. The frustrating this is that I can never bring myself to get rid of all of the "true junk" that I dig..this is the number one bone of contention between me and husband. He says that I've turned "his garage" into a "junk warehouse".

Your story reminded me of the time when my husband and I were first married and I found a LONG blonde hair in his car (I'm a brunette)-I sorta freaked out on him :o-It turned out to be from a wig that one of his co-workers put on to show him what he was going to be for Halloween ( a drag queen). My husband made the guy from work ring our doorbell on Halloween in full drag just to prove to me that it didn't belong to Pamela Anderson. ;D
