Have you had any experience with the ID Excel?

If so, what was your experience with it? Why did Fisher discontinue making it? I bought one in 2005 when it was new and the "reviews" were sensational. Oh, it was a whole new level in detecting, etc. I bought one and have been disappointed ever since. My first detector was a "M-Scope" beginning model, mid-1980's, $115. I found more with that cheap one than the $500 Excel! I've used it several times since the purchase date. Followed the instructions, so on. It's not like I'm a newbie.
Question: Should I just buy another detector and chalk this up to experience and make it my second one for friends, etc?
