I think the red stuff might be either garnet, spinel or ruby. Might be other things which I can't think of now also.
Do you have a topaz to do a hardness test?
If not -- get it looked at. Maybe a local universitys geology department might help.
Sue.. your iamegs are very clear and are very helpfull to others for ideing purposes.. again the "red" areas could be garnets or rubies.. But the stone is more often concidered a river rock.. but most might say "matrix", "feildspar" etc just becasue they have no clue what soemthing is.. My advice.. keep up the great images..
This came out of your sacred river near Glen Rose? Find that a little hard to believe, cause it shouldn't be there. Llano uplift area maybe, but way farther west is a better guess. Actually, looks like a scone from Tiger Corner. Man they taste great. I suppose though the rock could have come from Big Rocks Park and the crystals are garnet or spinel, most likely garnet. Nice find. Very nice. I have seen many rocks like that, but not with stones that size. What are you gonna find next, Jim Bowie's Lost Silver Mine?
It could be splatter or a scone it looks like a decorative cow hoof to me. But I found it in Glen Rose - and yes, I want to find treasure and a lost city or something!!
