have a ?

that would depend on how you found them, i think :icon_scratch:

depends on who made them.....a gold bar with a swastika and Providence could bring way more than spot price at a auction house like Christies

I would think finding the really big one would be more trouble than it would be worth even if they didn't take it away from you claiming it belonged to the public. :violent1:

Sandman's right! Shame on you! Those belong to Uncle Sam (or the city or county or state or whomever or wherever you found them!)!! But I'll tell ya what: send them to me for proper re-allocation. I will make sure they get returned to the proper authorities, and absolve your conscience of all guilt! Consider it just my good deed done for the benefit of all forumites ;D

Seriously now: If it were me, I rub off any identifying marks, and sell them to mid-west refineries (whenever the spot-gold-market suited your tastes). There is nothing inherently wrong with owning a gold bar. It is entirely conceivable that something like that could've been passed down through the generations (although highly unlikely, it is still possible).

When I was a kid in the early 1970s, a neighbor friend of mine's dad had a solid brick-sized bar of silver! His dad, apparently, in about 1964 when silver was going out of circulation, had pulled several thousands of silver coins from circulation, had them all melted down and formed into a brick-sized block. Can you imagine how much that weighed? They used it as a door-stop last I remembered.

I wouldnt sell it.

In today's economy gold and silver will be the only real money left soon... I would keep it - period.
