I have a ace 250 and has served me well for the time I used it, I got in the hobby and kinda lost interest and now some years later looking to get back in. I dusted my ace 250 off and I have no problem using it but was interested in getting another one. Not just to get one , but in hopes to get a buddy into the hobby as well. I thought if I have two and invite him on a few hunts he might like it and decide to get one himself and if not I have a couple of kids "12 and 9" that would like to go out as well so it wont go to waste.
So I was wondering if spending around $500ish to get a new ATpro would be worth it compared to the ace 250? I dont mind used and might look for a good deal but looks like anyway I cut it the ATPro will cost me around $300 more than the ace 250. I guess what im getting at is,Is it worth that much more, will I notice that much more performance and features? Or given the option should I just save up for a better machine and skip the ATPro and just pick up a used ace 250 cheap to have as a spare to bring a buddy along or kids? Or do you think the ATPro is a great machine and should be next on my list to learn on as a stepping stone to a higher end model, from my brief search looks like the next main detector and fan favorite is the Etrak but that is some serious money for me at the moment.

I'm basically in the same situation minus the kids that is. I've decide to go for the AT Pro because of a tight budget and my location, western pa. It has all the features i want in a new machine ie manual ground balance, pro mode, waterproof to 10'. Now, i love my 250 but now i'm looking for a MD that is more an intermediate next step without breaking the bank. This might not answer your question, but just my 2 cents.

Yea most likely I will pick up a AT Pro also. I notice a lot of vids to the at Pro vs Etrac,Im just wondering why they make so many vids of these? I mean they are not even close in price at almost $1000 difference, most cases it looks like the Etrac out performs the At pro "and it should considering the price" Or are they kinda saying its almost as good and Way cheaper? I figure they would compare the GTI 2500 to the Etrac they are closer in price.

ProfitofDoom, I think it is like Fords and Chevys, some like one over the other. The At Pro is a great machine in the right environment, but the Etrac will go deeper in heavy mineralized soil.

We have some great packages on in stock At Pros right now.

I just got an atpro upgrading from ace250....just rehunted a tract I did w my ace no more than a week earlier and found 1.43 more in clad and a ring and broken gold chain...90% of there were between 6-13 inches.. pro mode is amazing and with headphones allows you to hear the sound of a hit even if its not good enough (bc of depth/angle etc..) to register a vdi number....I was skeptical to get it at first too...but I know in a months time it'll pay for itself....assuming the wife doesn't kill me for going out n digging so much... Anyways...there's more reasons than that to base your decision upon...but, research is the only way make YOUR decision...don't let any one person sway your favor... YouTube at pro vs etrac iffy signals....I watched it, and several other videos before I shelled out 680$...(I bought from the only dealer n town, package deal, detector, tote, big bag for detector, headphones the video n book n she gave me a couple treasure matz)...but regardless, I'm very happy wy choice, and I'm sure u will be no matter what u pick....
O, n I'm from Kansas, so terrain isn't bad, n I love creeks n rivers, ...I waterproofed my propointer and 250..

I owned a few of the Ace 250s & the deepest dime I got that IDed correctly was 4". Then I got the AT Pro. Soon after I got the manual ground balance set properly I got a 7" deep dime that IDed correctly on every sweep. Best wishes, George (MN)
