Well Gosh, Diggumup. Guess I failed the day's quiz. Ya got me.
No not really. I'm not trying to fool anyone. I just didn't want anyone to form an opinion based on the box of relics that came with it. I still can't figure the thing out. All the pieces have labels but the labels are all in a pile together. So sorting them out is a job. Some of them only have the area they were found in though.

I'm more inclined to think its a natural concretion just from the structure and not man made. The stone would be more homogeneous if it were formed in my opinion.

I thought of a grinding stone like how a mill stone works.. This is not my end though. The groves just seem intentional.
Are the black areas a deposit or the color like desert varnish?

I'm thinking its a sedimentary rock, the "grooves" are layers which are softer then those that formed the "bumps".

they are like desert varnish it looks like. I had to look that term up.
