Today I was digging a civil war camp and battle site and smelled perfume several times. there was none else around and the nearest house was over 1/2 mile away. I've dug this spot quite a bit and have never had that happen there. I have smelled pipe and cigar smoke at other sites though when ther was no one else around. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this. And no I don't smoke or wear perfume.

ghost odors * ---- some ghost are "smells" , some are " seen" , while others make "sounds" -some are mixtures--- seen and heard --or seen and smelled --or heard and smelled. --a very rare few are all 3 --seen , heard and smelled .

some ghost are only "felt" at a subconscious level -- often making one feel "ill at ease" at at a certain spot or place

Several years ago while digging a target I busted open a small buried perfume bottle that was in the same hole with the coin I recovered. The fragrance got on my hand and digging tool. You may have done the same without knowing it? Or perhaps a lady ghost from the Victorian era walked by?

Thats never happened while I was detecting but it happens here at home quite often. I get the smell of bacon in the basement & its so strong that i'll think my girl is cooking breakfast. An hour later she comes down & Im ready to eat, only to find that she just woke up. Cant explain it, windows are closed, no way its coming from a neighbors house. Former resident cooking breakfast I suppose, wish she would share. :dontknow:

Happens often at my house and have had it happen in the field on occasion . My wife's grandmother , who raised her , died in 1993 . She always wore lavender perfume .
Every once in a while we get a whiff of her perfume in the corner of the livingroom where she always sat while visiting .
There's no lavender in the house ......... She's just checkin to see I'm doin right by her 'little girl'.

Thanks guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced thing like that.

The mind can play tricks like that.

To make a long story short when I was 21 I got home to see my apartment building had been torched and I had to find a new place to live. I gathered my stuff, and that was that. Several months later I made a more permanent move to just a few blocks South of the place I had been burned out of. So one night I'm walking home a half a block up and smell this very Strong burnt smell, it went on for a few seconds until I realized it was just in my head having somehow subconsciously thought of my old place. It was weird because It was just as strong in my mind as the night I walked into the burned out building. I used to be the type of person that thought things like PTSD was just BS, but having that experience, among a couple other things has convinced me that for lack of better words, our brain has a mind of its own.

My point being that even just thoughts can make you believe you smelled something you didn't. Of course if this went on for a long period of time it was probably the PA bubble bath bros having just got out of the tub before a hunt, and smelling up the field behind you. ;D

AMEN to THAT!
Seen some strange stuff myself.
Somehow the 'spirit' of the place is maintained.
Lucky it was a pleasant fragrance for you - something nice was going on.

We've had that kind of thing happen in our house. The sudden smell of stale cigarrette smoke, lingering in one area for a little bit and more than one of us can smell it. My wife and I have never smoked and don't hang around anyone that does, but she did have an Aunt she was close to that died of emphasema, due to a life-long smoking habit. The fact that I'll smell it in one small area of the house and then ask my wife to go stand in that area and ask her if she smells anything, without giving her a hint, and she replies that she smells the cigarette smell, tells me its more than some repressed memory. Also, it lingers for a little bit and then is gone.

Its a well known fact that smells associated with trauma can be powerful triggers for memories. This may be possible in the reverse. Odors once recorded in the brain like other memories like faces and pictures may be brought back and perceived as actual smells. How two people can persieve that same odor I can't explain at all but it may be a subconscious trigger from one person to the other. It may also be the dead person's imprint on the home passing from one plane [theirs] to another [ours - the living]. Death and the dead are a great unknown that we won't fully understand until we die ourselves.

My neighbor lives 150 yards from me.When she goes out to smoke I can smell it if the wind is blowing the right direction. That's about as far as I have personally picked up smells from and know where it's coming from.I have had those smells that I knew but couldn't pin down where it was coming from.I have a very sensitive smell and bad allergies,so I do not smoke or wear anything with a sent.Neither does anyone in my family.
