I recently purchased a Zircon Metalliscanner M-40 pinpointer and it seems to work somewhat. The led lights are hard to see in the sunlight and the audio tone signal is very weak. I am no electronics tec, but I can't help but wonder if anyone hear on tnet might have tried to improve the factory design. I would like the audio tone to be louder if possible and a push on, push off power button so I don't have to constantly hold the button down. Can anyone here help me? I would even ship it to an from to have the mod done ( continental us only)http://tnet.forumfoundry.com/forums/images/smilies/notworthy.gif

I used the m40 as my pinpointer for a while. My solution to the problem
of sunlight "washing out" the indicator lights (making them hard to see)
was to position my body in such a way that the m40 was in my shade.
Then I could see the lights fine. It was kind of annoying to have to do that,
but it worked and I got used to it.

But I never tried to increase the sound volume. You're on your own
for that one.

Now I use the Garrett Pro-pointer and I'm much happier. It solves several
other problems I had with the m40, which I posted in the main metal detecting
forum about 6-8 months ago. The main m40 problems (for me) were that it
falsed if you used it in wet grass (which I do a lot, hunting at night), it fell
apart too easily (the two halves come apart and the battery cover won't stay on),
and it's the wrong shape to poke into a hole.

But it worked, and quite well. I finally got a Pro-pointer as a gift and I haven't
been tempted to go back to the m40 since. But I save it as a backup.
