Thanks guys I don't know if you guys know about the civil war the frontier forts was very important for the expansion in the west.sent troops to fight in the civil war the forts some was named after key players that died.the fort that I metal detected for a year and a half in Colorado was in new Mexico territory until 1861 it is the bicentennial state.did not become a State until 1876.check out the battle of glorieta pass in new Mexico March 1862.great civil war history everybody thinks that it all happened in the south not true.i think these relic are more rare.i am from North Carolina been here about 10 years in Colorado.gave stuff to the cape fear museum in Fayetteville NC.oh that's right the first carbine rifle came from there.back to Colorado the fort I metal detected is fort Garland nothing comes out of there it is a museum these days of great frontier forts check it out.fort Garland colorado.the archaeologist here don't want nothing to do with me I want to help them about the forts live they are lazy.but we are the bad guys because we love history finds and facts.the archaeologist don't know nothing about the fort live order 13.what is order 13??? Thats a catholic devotional medal.

The front is very similar to the so-called miracolus medal (I think 1830 forwards), save that these are normally plain oval and have addtional symbols on the backside.

Perhaps around 1855, when the immaculate conception was made offically dogma (Guess)?

Wild Guess: Maltese Cross hmm, perhaps fraternal society. Knights of Columbus related?

So, I cant confirm the fort time period, yet it could be a period piece.

Thanks the fort was built in 1858 but fort Massachusetts was the first fort in Colorado that was in new Mexico territory in 1853 until 1858 when they move 6 miles south to fort garland.to keep the indiians under control the Utes orray the chef understood.let me tell you something I know about the revolutional war and the civil war but not the Indian war before the civil war.i had a lot to learn.because I had to learn about pre civil war civil war Indiana war.i have dragoon and rifle men who built fort Garland and the infantry and great coat buttons i have four file cabinet s full of history I have alot of things that I've never seen on any pre civil war civil war Indiana war on line.spent a year and a half of my live metal detecting there don't regret one minute I love history 3 hour drive stayed the weekend.loved it great finds so the guys who built fort Garland came from fort Massachusetts with help from the locals with adoba building also have Indiana pottery seen laying on the ground dug iron pot found Indiana pottery cup in same hole.best time of my life.okay check this out I found a 1853 dime was it lost in new Mexico and I found it in Colorado don't know pocket changes look in your pocket today find coins from the 60's and 70's 80's.key players canby ,kit Carson,Sherman visited the fort, buffalo soldiers.in Denver Colorado the confederate flag was raised for about 2 hours before it was taken down.true history.if the confederates would have made it through new Mexico into the west the war would have been different.they where after fort Garlands cannons.
