Has anyone ever dried up the dimes in their area?

Halves in Iowa are dry. Probably have been for over a year now. Mental has proven that with his recent skunk quest.

It has taken me about 34 boxes of dimes, but I have complete my first role of CRH dimes. I know it isn't just me CRHing dimes in my area because I'm in a "major" metro area (as major as you can get for Iowa). I'm wondering how long my decent dimes can last. I'm sure there are MANY more dimes in circulation in Iowa than Halves...so I'm sure the supply of silver is much greater, but I'm wondering how long it will last. I've seen some of you post pictures of your dimes collection and you have many, many rolls? Can I go that long? Can this hobby last me years? I hope it lasts me a while, I tend to enjoy this. Anyone ever dry up their dimes?

I haven't gotten a silver dime from a box in 5-6 boxes now. I've done better with CWR, but not by much.

Dry up the silver, or dry up the supply of dimes?

I live in a small town, and it is kind of amazing how buying $300 worth of dimes from different banks in town will dry up the supply of dimes for a while.

To clarify, dry up the amount of easy to find silver dimes in an area/distruct served by your vault service company.

Apparently someone or something dried up the dimes in my area. I've been at this since about the beginning of last year and other than 2 boxes that produced 8 silvers total early this year, dimes have never produced at all. Lifetime I have skunked on 7 of every 8 boxes searched. I don't search dimes regularly. Maybe if I did my averages would improve, but I see no reason to increase my search. I'll search 2-4 boxes once a month or so, and in most cases they're all skunks. I haven't seen a silver dime from a box since February.

I kill the dimes in my big city, and its consistent for over 2 months now when I started. I do 10-20 boxes a week and only get skunked 1 or 2 times out of the 10-20 boxes.

I think its directly related to how much "coin" is moved due to retail stores. And there is a ton of retail here, malls, shops, restrnts, golf courses on every other corner etc. With alot of retail stores, comes alot of coin off the street, whereas in a smaller city, there is more stagnation with the coin.

Am I right or am I right?

I thought I had dried up dimes in my area, but then the last box had three including a Merc. Then I found out from a teller that the Brinks facility all the banks around here get their coin from serves a much larger area than I expected, which left me unworried.

Dimes are a bit better than halves :D Since Making the switch to dimes in Feb. I have put together 27 rolls with nearly 4 of those being Mercs. Actually, 84 of the Mercs came from one stop at a bank in Illinois. The dimes produce steadily so for me it is all about quantity. I usually do about 40 boxes per week. If only the halves were like that......

Guess I shouldnt brag about my 10-20 boxes then. Thats killer with 40, wtg... Do you keep records?

I don't keep records. I have a clay jar my daughter made me that I put them in and once I get 50, I roll it and put it in the safe and have my gun wielding kitty patrol the area.

I think that dimes are unsuspecting for searching due to their size and less circulation compared to quarters.. thus they are the next best to search. However, we should not talk about it so much here.. next thing you know.. newbies that get skunked on halves.. jump on dimes.

Although I can't speak for much here.. I haven't gotten any dimes since last week and I have been skunked 3 boxes in a row

I haven't dried the dimes up in my area yet, but I plan on it.

silver dimes are dry in my area, I am not near any major city, but I am averaging 1 silver dime every 2 boxes (1 silver dime every $500), and I gave up dimes after the coin counter mis-sorted and counted my dimes as pennies shorting me $206.70, 6 days later I was refunded though. Do not want to go through that delima again! hh!

I do not think dimes will dry up. They are so small and so the signature look, feel, and sound of silver is diminished greatly to the average joe. Same Joe gets a silver quarter in change and even though he may not know the first thing about coins, he will keep it. However with dimes - These are handled everyday by millions of people who have no idea as the size of it hides all the tell tell signs a quarter has. This is why the silver quarters are so hard to come by. Another reason is how many state quarters were thrown into circulation starting in 99 - there were billions of these things minted for that program making it even harder to find.

Short version - - No, they will not dry up because people have no idea they are silver and still circulate.

dimes also don't circulate as much as quarters.. less circulation going on the better

Some banks that I dropped off boxes of dimes tell me they still have them after 2 weeks. Whereas they go through quarter boxes easily.

Not to mention the State Quarter program increased awareness about coins in general and probably created a bunch of new coin collectors/silver searchers. I remember being a 9 year old kid when they started in 1999, and my parents gave me 2 50 state books and gave me 2 of each state as they came out.
