has anybody ever found a 1943 copper penny.i was just wondering as i read the other day they are very rare cause they where all made from steel.

I've never found either one--but the '43 copper would be almost impossible. I've found a few 1944 steel cents though.

SilverFox, you have a picture of the 43 copper penny. From my understading there were only a handfull, if that. If you post a picture/s we would love to see then. If it is, wow. Talk about Banner !!!

Sniffy, the 43 steel cent is very common. They quit using copper in 43 because they needed it for the war. So they made the 1943 pennies (P-D-Ss) out of steel. Now you get a 43 copper, thats a fantastic find.

I got jump started in my enthusiasm for Wheaties when a friend dug a real nice 1922 plain. Since then I've dug a 22-D, a 14-s, and a 1909 VDB. So so close!

I dug a 43' steel penny at my old elementary school. It was actually in decent shape. I'll post a pic sometime.
