has anybody ever found one?

I'd love to know if anybody has ever dug a '55 double die.

I've never found either one--but the '43 copper would be almost impossible. I've found a few 1944 steel cents though. ;D

I have a friend who dug a 55 double date.

Killer find!

I'd love to see a photo of a Dug one--that'd get me fired up about digging wheaties (and I haven't been fired up about them in about a decade and a half).

SilverFox, you have a picture of the 43 copper penny. From my understading there were only a handfull, if that. If you post a picture/s we would love to see then. If it is, wow. Talk about Banner !!! :tongue1:

I believe there are either 6 or 7 known examples.

I have a 43 steel cent. Is it really that fantastic?

Sniffy, the 43 steel cent is very common. They quit using copper in 43 because they needed it for the war. So they made the 1943 pennies (P-D-Ss) out of steel. Now you get a 43 copper, thats a fantastic find.

I was very happy to dig the steel cent.

I got jump started in my enthusiasm for Wheaties when a friend dug a real nice 1922 plain. Since then I've dug a 22-D, a 14-s, and a 1909 VDB. So so close!

I dug a 43' steel penny at my old elementary school. It was actually in decent shape. I'll post a pic sometime.
