It started about a week ago. I get an email from the bay, it says my listings could do better if I follow their reccommendations. I have 36 auctions going right now and they found tiny little things "wrong" with most of them. If there was a problem why didn't they just refuse to accept them in the first place.

On a few I tried to comply and added a word or two but they still said they wanted more.

Even when I just open up my SELLING MANAGER page, sometimes a "Listing recommendations" tab opens up, sometimes it does not.

Is this just another one of their new ideas someone that needs to keep their job at ebay "thought up"?

Yep. I get those all the time. I just ignore them unless action is required.

Yup, I get them all the time as well. I even spent 30 minutes trying to fix them. Once I saved them, the numbers just said the same thing. I am just ignoring them as well.

Maybe they should open officially sanctioned "ebay consignment stores" in major cities and allow professional ebay experts to list your stuff for an additional fee? That would solve nearly all the issues that face sellers and buyers.

I have about 170 of them that Have recommendations for them. They seem to be selling and I haven't changed a single one of them.

I never started getting them till last week, lucky I guess.
I will ignore also.

Thanks

Are you talking about these things?-

To increase exposure, add required/recommended item specifics to 9 listings.
To increase exposure, update listings with a recommended category to 2 listings.
To let buyers know exactly what to expect, add a condition description to 31 listings.

I wish I wish. I could really step up my game if that were the case. I'm already looking for someone to list items for me at a reasonable rate. It's the photos that take up all my time.

We use an iPhone to list 99.9% of our ebay listings.

My wife starts the listings with the iPhone, takes the photos with her phone, and once it is listed, I use our laptop to revise the listing, write a description, make changes, etc. While I am writing the description, she is starting on the next listing.

It has really sped up our listing time. There was a time that a listing took me 30 to 45 minutes. We are at a fraction of that now.

If you have a not-so-great camera on your cell phone, consider getting an iPhone. The picture quality is great, especially if you have natural lighting when taking pictures.

I have a decent Sony Cybershot 12mp. I probably need a faster home computer. This thing is about 9 years old and only has 1gb of memory and 200gb hardrive. I couldn't imagine posting my listings from my phone. I can't see too well and I don't even like surfing the net on my phone. And it has a big screen as far as phones go. I just deleted 16,000 plus photos from my outdated editing software, that should help speed it up some. I need to slow down on my buying until I get rid of some of this crap too, that would help. On a weekly basis, I can find way more items than I could ever buy or list single handedly unless I were to sell full time, and that ain't happening while I am still physically able to work. I just have a hard time resisting a good bargain and I buy a bit too much a lot of times! lol

Hey Dan, they are sending me email messages now too. The notices used to only show up on my seller page. It seems the powers that be at ebay have people dedicated to "tweaking" their website constantly. They are always doing something stupid it seems in the name of progress.

edit- 200gb hd not ram

1. I just got an email from ebay telling me how to improve my listings so I guess it is happening to everyone now.

2. Diggum, PLEASE get yourself a newer computer. I promise, it will make your life so much easier in terms of ebay listings and for research. Even if you absolutely hate Apple products, I would strongly recommend something like this:

Apple Mac Mini Desktop 2 4GHz Core 2 MC270LL A Mid 2010 0885909340422 | eBay

I had PCs since the early 90s. In 2009 I finally decided that I just couldnt continue to use a PC because I realized that I hate almost everything about them. So, I decided to give Apple a chance. YES, they are freaking expensive, but the extra money is worth what you get. Dont let anyone tell you that you need a brand new super duper MacBook Air or anything like that. My Mac Mini is running just as well as it did the day I bought it and has treated me very well. If you have any questions, please let me know and I would be happy to help.

Yeah, a new computer is on my Christmas list. My wife's little mini laptop is way faster than this beast. I guess it's time to say goodbye to windows XP, lol.

As an alternate option, I have a newer 2010 era Lenovo desktop PC in my garage. It has a genuine Windows Vista product key on the case. It needs an SATA hard drive and then a re-install disc. It is yours if you want it (although not too sure how you would get it).

Have you considered buying an iPad?

You might possibly be the best picker that I've ever met, and it seems that you could speed up your listing times of those awesome picks if you invested in an iPad...and make more money at the same time.

i know that many will pounce on me for recommending an iPad, but there is a reason that they've sold 170 million of them in 3 years. They seem to work flawlessly, and the camera quality is superb.

The iPad would fix both your computer and camera issues.

I rave about our iPhones. It literally has revolutionized our working time while listing. I used to be good to get 3 listings done an hour, but the iPhone has tripled that number.

I am definitely looking to buy an iPad Air this year, and am hoping for a black Friday deal on one.

Thanks for the offer but my next computer will be a brand spanking new one. Something I've never had.

Thank you for the accolades but I think my picking skills have a lot to do with my location. I'm sure that most of us that have been posting on the GS forum for any amount of time could do just as well if they lived in this area. An Apple product is on my short list. Still haven't decided whether I want something portable or not though.

Those are out there - not officially sanctioned, however.

Good luck to all,

The problem is the liability issues are still there when you use an unofficial "ebay store" B&M location. At that point I would rather do it myself and not pay a middle man for 10 mins worth of work.
