Found this near old homestead have found CW items in the area and wheat pennies dating 1930-1940s. So the sight has seen action from late 1800s to mid 90s. Ive seen pictures of reeds but never held one so not sure of dimensions/weight or material. The piece seems to be made of copper. Could be iron but it seems to have green corrosion. Am I on the right track or is it some piece of old scrap.

My girlfriend found this today in the same field as the last. It's copper same as the piece I found. Is there any way to date them based they are made of copper rather than brass.

Good grief. You went through a lot of work for such a broken piece. In the future use a coin for size with a front and back picture. But your pictures are good. Can't wait to see what you find next! HH!
