Ha! Great pics, Kermit. Looks like you had a pretty good time during your service. Don't worry about the thick glasses. I've got them, too...they help me to appear smarter than I actually am...lol

Happy Veteran's Day to you, and all.

Joe

I'm no veteran, but here's a picture of me paying respects to those lost on D-Day. Taken on Omaha Beach, Northern France.

Wow, I would love to go there!!!

Nice pics guys!

Omaha beach and Pearl Harbor are two places I always wanted to see. That had to be quite a feeling looking up at those cliffs and imagining the ponding the guys on the beach took.
Mike

PS. Why don't they give veterans a day off instead of the postal workers, teachers, etc... that never served a day?

Mike,

It was very cool to walk around the vicinity of the beach and see the hundreds of craters pac-marking the area. You could literally walk down inside the craters and stand at the bottom and the ground level would be about ten feet or more above your head. I also explored some bunkers. That area is extremely dangerous. You'll be walking around and come across a 3X2 hole in the ground, that drops about 20 feet into a bunker, and all that's separating you and severe injury or death is this thin, flimsy chicken wire, no joke. I've got video of us there, very haunting site, as you said, imagining what went on there was quite an experience.

They should have given veterans the day off, no doubt.

Joe

When I was in Okinowa we would go out into the jungle and we would stumble upon old pillboxes and old tunnels. On my old base we found a cave that lead from on base out to the ocean. Me and my buds craweled through it, we found old radio wires and fins from WWII mortars. At some places we could only fit through with our arms streched straight out in front of us. At he exit of the cave it was an ancient Budist shrine. That is something I will remember for the rest of my life!!!

TF,

Man, that sure sounds like an adventure. You never forget stuff like that. I remember when you told me about how the other guys relied on you to climb the trees so that you were able to find your way around. They knew as well as me, if not more so, about how good of a human compass you are!

Hey, have you checked your PM's???

Just in case you missed this one, very nice work.

That was a good video Tim. At my parents house my dad and the neighbors had something like that going. My dad was in the Navy, and the neighbors on their street were in the Navy, Marines, Army. They would all put flags out. Both of my grandparents were in the army so they had an American flag, an Army flag and a Navy flag on the front porch. When I joined the Marines they put a 4th flag (American, Army, Navy, & Marines flags on the front porch.) They won the flag battle LOL.
