Today was a beautiful day in Massachusetts. Full sun, nice breeze, and temps in the 70's. I was able to spend three hours detecting around a wooded area that recently produced a complete colonial shoe buckle. I was hoping to find some additional items from the same time period, and wasn't disappointed!

This 1782 2 Real was part of a pocket spill that also included two half pennies. Sadly both were in pretty rough shape.

Other finds for the day included a reins guide, and a really good looking 1958-D Franklin half dollar.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Amazing! I was digging in Massachusetts this weekend too....weeding and digging up dandelions! Grrrrrrrr :BangHead:

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I am thrilled with this coin. It's only the second 2 real I have ever un-earthed. The fact that it's in such great shape is a major bonus.

Special thanks to Don ( Mackaydon) with his information about the mint and the assayers, Manuel and Ignacio ( my two all-time favorite assayers!).

Does anyone know of a good reference guide that covers the history of Spanish reales? I'd love to add it to my detecting library.

Thanks!

Scott

Very cool! Is it possible that those coppers are CTs rather than KGs?

That’s a sweet one! Congratulations

Congrats on the GREAT finds - the 2 Real is drop dead beautiful ! :occasion14:

Thanks again. I'm hoping to re-visit that same site on Wednesday. If anything turns up, I'll let you know.
For Jeff H- Here are some better pictures of the two half pennies:

The coin in better condition on the right appears to be a KG II (8.3 g, 28 mm). The coin on the left...unsure. You can barely see a right facing bust, but that's about it (9.3 g, 28 mm). It is heavier and somewhat thicker than the KG II. It is also sporting what seems to be a chop mark.

That KG on the right is pretty sharp! That is my kind of pocket spill.
