Sorry guys! That was a rough one. Arghhhh! 
So here it goes. My dad and his neighbor grabbed me early Fri. morning (5am) to a new ghetto fabulous Chicago park. Only had a few hours to detect before the friendly neighbors started waking up and being curious. Fifteen minutes into the hunt I dug an 1895 IH from about 8" which barely gave me a peep, but it was steady. The mosquitos were horrible and I was getting thirsty. I started walking towards a water fountain (which ended up being off) and came across a weird signal. After I wiggled it out, I was getting a jumping penny/dime signal at about 3-4 inches. Dug it out and it was a 1921 Merc dime with a pulltab along with it in the hole from about 3 inches. Its not the 1916-d, but one of the key date Mercs. G-4=$60, vg-8=$75, f-12=125, vf-20=$280, xf-40=$550, au-50=$875. I would probably say its between a vf-20 and xf-40.
I didn't realize it was a key date until i got home and looked it up. Birthday started out perfect......and then it lasted a few days.

and yes the main key dates not including "over dates" is 1916d , 1921, 1921d.
In this case the pull tab was probably your friend, guarding that great find from the earlier hunters.
