Not sure. But its a great find. It looks like it may have a little age on it, but my guess is that it was made some time in the 20th century. The beads could be valuable if they're really old. More photos might help also. I want to see what the center or inside looks like. And is that glue at the top, near the corn cob?

I don't think I'd call it an artifact, but rather an art project

No glue, its all handmade, thin twigs hold it together at the bottom, there is another small corncob in the basket, wraped with some kind of thin leather straps. Top leaves are inserted. Will try to post more photos tonight.
Thanks for your imputs.

Its interesting. And I think its more of a tourist item than an old artifact or something, but looks can be deceiving. Even some of the early tourist trade stuff can be pretty valuable. I would have saved it too.

Its made out of palm fiber that grows at the bottom of the fronds next to the trunk.
A finely crafted basket would be woven from the fans in strips and dyed and patterned.
The corn looks like Flor del Rio ? how long is that corn 4-5"?
Link to a palm fiber basket.

Most likely made in Mexico tourist item.

Fun Fact- Corn is not self seeding, if it falls to the ground it will rot. It has to be hand sown to grow.
