Hand Made Fishing Rig?

I found this at a Revolutionary/Colonial Bridge Site. Could be more recent but the ingenuity seemed impressive. Still looks pretty old compared to newer fishing sinker rigs you would find.
The line is finely braided, I’m sure it was a hand fishing line with a multiple hook rig for bottom fishing. Needs cleaning. The knots tied are as they were when found. Notice how the line is “molten cast” inside the handmade sinker!
