Here is what appears to be a threaded hand forged bolt. It measures 1'' square. It has a hook loop hammered into it. I am guessing maybe wagon related or possible rail road as I found a spike nearby in an iron infested camp site that was once plowed. Has anyone ever encountered one made like this? Thanks for looking.

It looks like an anchor for a small pulley possibly? A rope would of been threaded through the loop maybe. My best guess. It looks big enough to run through electrolysis, have you thought of trying?

Thank you that sounds plausible . Actually I have an electrolysis set up and may just do that John. I have a lot of items in front of it though. Hand forged items are fun to restore. I had just not seen one like this and wondered if it was worthwhile.

Tnmountains, what you have is the nut that holds the plow point on a plow stock. The one that was pulled by mules or horses. I grew up hearing them called "pigtails" The purpose of the loop, I always thought, was so you could tap on it with your wrench to help loosen it or tighten it back up when you were changing plow points...d2
