This may not be colonial, but it was dug from between 6-8" behind the house which is definitely 1790's. I found a handful of older relics and pipe stems in the dirt, but most relics I recovered today looked to be mid to late 1800's. This piece really stood out though and I'm hoping that someone has seen one like it or can identify the motif of the carvings.

The crack in the center is sad, but was pre-existing. Not sure if that's why it was tossed or if the frost-heaves and rocky soil did it. It's a beautiful piece though and I'm really hoping the backstory is as exciting as digging it was!

Really beautiful

It really is; someone put a lot of time into crafting this. If I'd dug this in the the UK I'd have my fingers crossed that it was roman or viking, but in upstate NY the possibilities and date range are somewhat limited. :laughing7:

The four blocks of characters between the circles are the same set repeated over all four times. If it's Arabic writing does anyone recognize what those blocks say?

I can't get passed this as pie tin or pudding mold, but it's brass. Maybe if we can figure out the "what" will tell us "where"?
