Hand carved wooden object

Hi, my aunt found this, we don't know much about it except it appears to be old, hand carved and had a rope in it at one point, it is about 8" long. Any Ideas?

They are called 'geta'.

In old Japan the streets were dirt and mud. Geta would help keep your feet from getting muddy/dirty.
