Hammereds and snot

When you're detecting with a bad cold, it's amazing just how much snot can run from your nose. Must have been a couple of gallons at least. Still battled through, and was rewarded with a couple of hammered silver coins. A short cross, and a large broken foreign one (not sure of id). A small Roman bronze coin, and a Medieval leather decoration. The picture does not show it very well, but I think these types of decoration depict an erect you know what. A mate had one years ago, that had added detail to prove it.

Those phallic votives/charms/amulets were very popular with the Romans. I'd feel pretty stupid wearing a little bronze peener around my neck, but I guess the Ancients took their presumed power to ward off evil quite seriously . So if it is what you say, It's probably much older than medieval.

Had one of those Roman ones years ago plumbata, with a loop so it could be worn around the neck.

Nice results from a snotty hunt, look on the bright side with a little tin foil and the readily availability of snot the hammered gets cleaned.
