After the slow sunday last week i went to a new site i never detected. It's a roman homestead with massive amounts of tiles and pottery. Other than nails not much roman stuff turned up.
Medieval silver saved the day! And it travelled some miles only to get lost in a German field....
Got some Roman and medieval pottery, the dark piece in the middle matches an urn (Museum Replica) i have. Lead shows the spot is right, Half Groat Henry VI, roman hairpin and bronze nail, silver shoebuckle part, medieval mount of some sort, only one button, coins and a nice red stone..

I know someone recently who travelled half way around the world to get one of these & failed. Maybe they should have stuck closer to home.

Its a great find in any Country but so far from home, I'm actually thinking banner for rarity!

My votes in, but its a long shot, as English Hammered turn up in Germany all the time....lol

Nice hammy Westfront  mount looks like a kind of vessel mount.:dontknow:

People are just crazy sometimes, aren't they?! :laughing7: Truly a rare find, it was the only one in that field, maybe the guy with the silver shoe buckle lost it??? :laughing9:

congrats on the hammered, I also liked most of your finds

Also, as hammered, & Halfgroats (not that common) go, its a great example. Not too clipped, not too ploughed damaged, not tarnished, not too worn, & out of the blue!

Yes, i'm very happy with this one. It came out the ground shiny, was slightly bend on the rim and has some cracks but i was able to straighten it a bit out. Otherwise a nice condition for the way it travelled. I had some medieval finds in the neighbor field last fall when looking for this roman site, nothing special, so out of the blue is the right term. :occasion14:

Nice hammie and also liking the mount.

Nice finds Westfront, The groat says LONDON, it may be my eyes tricking me, but the portrait looks a little bit narrow faced. May not have travelled that far. You Europeans used to copy English coins a lot. Making them from slightly debased silver, and then using them in trade with the English. That way making a profit, on transactions. This practice was common with pennies, maybe groats as well.:dontknow:
Robert.

Its happened on my Dutch immitation of an Edward III Gold Half Noble, as well. Not studied this for too long but I think its right.(British) - Normally they miss the obivious.

Its 20mm, so a halfgroat.

Thanks Rob, it will be difficult to find an expert to get an opinion in my area. To me it looks like good silver because it wasn't tarnished as you see in the insitu pic. :dontknow: I'll keep it anyways fake or real! :occasion14:

It's real IMO, the immitations have a different look, & as far as I know, I've yet to see a halfgroat immitation with all the right Legend & markings. (although it might exist)

Sweet finds Lu. The hammered looks in great shape. Doe's the silver buckle & red stone indicate wealth? Good luck.
