Hi All...a friend of mine found this piece of hammered silver near Frederick, Maryland. It is VERY unusual to find any hammered around here. Does anyone care to point me in the right direction to get a possible I.D. for him? The coin is smaller than a dime. Thanks...Beau

one of our European cousins will know, as I believe it looks familar to some Northern Europe types.

What I can say from the picture, is it is NOT British/Scottish/Irish.
It looks to be a Silver mix, ie a billion & not a high grade Silver (probably 50%).

Total guess would be late 1600s early 1700s

I will watch & learn...

That would make sense I guess. This area was settled in part by Germans. I hope someone can do a positive i.d. Thanks so far...Beau

My father's side of the family settled in that western part of Maryland & Somerset county, Pa. in the
1750-1760 era. They were Amish or of the Brethern or Dunkard faith. As aquachigger posted, it was
mainly settled by the German Amish. The area of 'Bruderstahl' or Brother's Valley in nearby Somerset
Co., Pa. is an example of this. Good chance it's a coin brought from the 'Old Country'. I still have relatives
there & will be in that area this coming weekend.

From what I can tell, I think its date is between 1580-1620 & is of a German States, Prussian or Polish

This is what I can figure out so far I think! Could be that it reads "COM MONT DO IN HEID ET" Look at the coin at the following link looks like the bottom half of the shield design is on the OP's coin. The 2 fish on the right, and the eagle banner on the left?

I've seen these in my searches as well, but the letters I can make out don't fit anything, I can see:

(Starts with a crossed kinda leaf design, directly above the I.K which could be an old J.K) ET.??C.COM.MON.DO.COM.HEID
