DAY 1
I am back from Africa and life has caught up with me. Every time I turn around there is something else I need to take care of so detecting has been hard to find time for. I did make it to the bullet school and continued to grid search and do a final cleanup on another section of the sports field. In 5 hours I managed to find 41 coins with a face value of $1.84 (which is pretty good for this site lately), a thin light fastener, 2 round balls, 2pieces of possible camp lead, a brass ring soldered in an offset position, a Pokemon taken and the usual assortment of tabs, can slaw and junk.
The round balls are a .36 caliber and a .58 caliber that look like they are civil war era. No way to tell for sure, but from the location I believe they are civil war bullets. The fastener is not like any one I have found before. It is very thin and light and made of brass. It is actually 2 pieces that slide together. The lightness suggests it is some sort of old underwear adjustment or fastener. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.
The brass ring may be part of a curb chain for a horses bit. It could be civil war or from the old farm. Then again it might have some other use. No way to be sure.
DAY 2
I went to the small town park where I usually get a decent amount of clad and sometimes a goodie. It was a rainy day, but the rain was light and I managed to detect for 5 hours before the sky opened up and drenched me. All together I found 80 coins with a face value of $7.88, part of a kerosene lantern, a 1940 wheatie, a Canadian penny, a home made copper heel tap, a square copper nail, an older GM car key and the usual assortment of junk to recycle.
A few interest things, but nothing special in my book.
DAY 3
I had errands to run so I only got 3 hours at the park by the pool. I started in a decent spot and ended up in a dead zone. The last hour I only found a penny. All together I found 26 coins with a face value of $2.63, a 1945 wheatie, a crusty no date wheatie, a railroad penny, a bent up drawer knob, a nice brass furniture decoration, a stone masons hammer, a big brass hinge and more stuff to recycle.
The box has the hammer, hinge and an assortment of other stuff to recycle (not all the extraneous stuff is in the box).
DAY 4
I went back to the bullet school even though my time was again short. I continued to grid and clean up small spots not finished before. Not very promising spots, but you never know what is under the ground until you dig it up. I did manage to find 16 coins with a face value of a whopping $0.73, a 1942 wheatie, a football spike, a copper rivet washer, half an Ace bandage clip, a combination lock dial, a hammer and the usual assortment of junk.
As you can see I did get hammered 2 days in a row, just not the kind of hammered you may have thought (apologies to Crusader and Blossom who find the kind of hammered we all want to find). 2 nice old hammer heads are nice finds, just not as nice as hammered coins would have been. LOL
With doctors, a broken refrigerator and hearing aides that are malfunctioning that is all the time I had this week. Hopefully next week will be better, but at least I was able to get out after 3 weeks away. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
