Hi, I am new here, I hope this the right forum for my question.

I just bought a bangle at a yard sale (for 50 cents) and it has some hall marks on it. I think it might be 14k gold, but I had a question on some of the other marks on it.

I know some about hallmarks, but there are a couple on here that have me stumped.

On one side it is stamped: italy 14k and what I believe is Prev could be BREV

On the other side is 1 or I V and 1200

The bracelet is yellow gold and white gold in color. No tarnish (as if it were silver)

What do the hallmarks I have bolded mean?

Brev ....shortened for brevetto ....means patent or licensed in Italian

Thanks so much for that insight. So does this mean it is definately 14k or is there a possibility of plating, or mixed types of metal (like silver)

The markings on the other side are all I need to find out about now. I(or 1) V 1200

This bracelet has the safetly clasp, you know where you push in on it, and it slides out of the bracelet. The tongue of that is where the markings are. The ones I just listed are on the top, and the 14k, italy brev one is underneath.

It weighs out at 20 grams. Definately worth a lot more than the 50 cents I paid for it.

I know if it was plated, it should be marked 1/20th and it doesnt have any characters or numbers that I have found to be silver unless someone else can shed some light there.

So if I go by that ebay listing, the I V 1200 on the other side could be the Italian patent #?

I am really into jewelry. I look for the real deal anytime I go to a thrift store or yard sale. Can anyone recommend a good guide I could purchase so I can have hallmark info on hand instead of having to alot of online research?

I have found other really cool items. I found a bead necklace that dates back over 100 years.

Here it is, I cant get a good pic of the stamp, but in the site I listed above shows it exactly and it is 14k clasp that dates back between 1852 & 1906 and is Dutch. The center stone appears to be a very dark garnet, and the beads are black.

I took it to a local jeweler today to get the content confirmed. It weighed out at 20.4 grams. I had her tell me how much they would scrap it for and ended up declining their offer. I told my husband I wouldn't take any less than $200 for it. She offered me $163. I figure that is about half of what I would get if I took it directly to the smelter myself.

I really like it, so I guess I am going to hang onto it for now. I had someone online tell me they have one just like it. Her husband bought it for her in Switzerland about 15 years ago for $500 USD. I have been seeing bracelets of the sme size and karat weight retailing for upwards of $1000.
