Congrats Johnny! That one is in great shape! Did you use aluminum foil to clean it??

That's a nice piece of Spanish silver right there, congrats.
ZDD

Nope Erik no foil..just water..

Johnny, love the condition of your silver 1781 Spanish Half Real.......it is amazing to find very old coins like this on or near the top of the ground, which I have also found over the last 42 years in this hobby......I found a 1556-1598 Philip II era Spanish 1/2 Real cob only 2 or 3 inches deep within 1/4 mile of an old Spanish Mission here in Florida.....I still have it and will take a picture of it and add it as my avatar......Keep up the good work....I mean FUN!!

NOTE: Yes, the proper name is "Real", for a 1/4 Real, 1/2 Real, and 1 Real......but "Reales" plural for 2, 4, 8 Reales
There is no such word as Reale when referring to Spanish Coins, but there is a
Reale Family Name and a meaning in,Italian: from reale ‘royal’, either an occupational name for someone in the service of a king or a nickname for someone who behaved in a regal manner.

wlb42..I must add that the farmer just plowed these fields a few day ago bringing these to the surface

Great job Johnny! You didn't beat me yesterday but you sure did one up me today. I'll try to beat you to the next one. Congrats. :icon_thumright:

Excellent find! Did you actually eyeball it or MD it?
I've had a few IH's, Buffalos and some more recent type silver on top in the spring. I was a surface collector way before I MDed.

My detector picked this one up first..copper coins I can spot easy especially when the soil is dry..the green patina pops right out against the sugar sand

Great find! Still waiting to find my first Spanish silver. Gotta love hunting plowed fields, HH!

Congrats, that is awesome. The wife and I found 2 1/2 Reales back in early May. they are a welcomed find.

That is one Beautiful Half Real! Looks like you two are on an Awesome site! I hope you pull out some more great coins & relics from there!

What a super surface find and it's in great shape!
