hello all...while on the way home from work today...i saw a large lot in the process of being cleared...so i figured i would try to md a few minutes...asked permission at a store next door...but they didnt know who owned it...time i went back...a few guys drove up and i asked them...they said sure go ahead...well i only detected a few minutes...was loaded with trash...and the guy says...hey...i lost a half lb gold necklace about 3 months ago at another lot i was clearing about a mile away...if you can find it...ill pay you 500 bucks...i told him...il look tomarrow if your gonna be around...he said sure call me tomarrow after you get off work and here my cell! soooooo tomarrow after work...ill try to find it...the guy had another chain on his neck...and that one was super big...when i asked..he said...this one weighs a whole lb...the other one is about half as big! i was thinkin maybe i could do an edit, learn type program before i look for the necklace...maybe take a big chain i wear , plus a few rings added...and come up with a program to help find the necklace...surely a chain that big...should give one mighty big signal...dont you think..????.he did say the grass is grown up some...but i dont think it would be all that bad! any advice or comments are real welcome...smile, bigscrub

well, hate to say this...but i didnt find the gold today! the guy told me today....the chain has a fairly large gold bar on it...and a chain that attaches to each end! the chain is of the large rope type...anyways i met him at 3pm today after work as planned..he took me to the place he lost it...was his house...an adjoining lot he had cleared several months back...only problem was he never finished clearing it...said the county stepped in and told him that part of the property was invironmentally protected ect...and that he couldnt do any more work on it as far as clearing it off! so , the grass was high in many places...like waste high...and i did have him put the chain on his neck on the ground for me to get a digital reading a few times...it came back 06 fer and 13 cond, another pass was 07 fer and 14 cond, and yet another one was 08 fer,16 cond...so it wasnt coming back the same each time...it also had a medallion on it...so that might have had something to do with it as well! I hunted for about an hour...got one signal within the first 10 minutes...turned out to be a can at about a foot...after an hour in the 90 somthing degree heat...i had had enough...i got up at 5am ,worked all day....and i guess that hour was all i wanted for one day...lol...i was soaking wet! the guy told me ..hey...come back anytime and try again...i said i would go back when i was able to do a morning hunt...when it wasnt in the 90's...he said ok! well i guess nothing ventured...nothing gained...so at least i gave it a shot...im thinkin ill go back in a few weeks...when i can do a morning hunt..maybe have better luck then...i do think its there...just didnt run across it today...i used my wot...and i guess swingin that thing will take its toll on you too...it did me...lol

Good luck if you go back and try again. Sounds promising if the lot is overgrown, maybe nobody could see it ......detecting it would be the only way?????

I am just amazed that someone could lose 1/2 lbs of gold hanging around their neck and not notice immediately :-X

The 14K gold heavey gold bracelet I found read 06 on my Whites, down in the foil range. It was just luck I found it since I discriminate out below 09. It just happen to give a blip and something told me to check it out, otherwise I would have missed it. Now I check out those blips that won't register after the blip. Good luck next time. Who would wear 1/2 pound gold around their neck? I'll bet he's pretty big.

A chain that big makes it easier, dig those foil sounds and dig when your detector overloads as well, that big and close to the top of ground, you may just have to dig more than you want, but thats a huge chunk of gold!!

I'm thinking this guy might be Mr T. ;D

i thought the same thing myself...how could you lose something that big...the chain he wears now is a full lb...where as the one he lost was 1/2 lb....he really isnt all that big...maybe 180 lbs...i will try again...hopefully he will have the grass and weeds cut down some...and ill hunt in the morning when its cooler...i was gettin some signals...but i figured they were too small to be the chain i was looking for...i did find a alum can at about a foot...i was really just looking for big blasting signals...never tried to find a piece of gold like that before...

that's a goofy amount of gold to wear around your neck. I am barely over 180 lbs. I would look rediculous with that much on me. But that's besides the point.
Good luck finding it, I think knowing it was out there would be enough to keep me in the heat!
I think gypsy is right though. How the heck do you not notice a half pound falling off your neck?? It would probably hurt if it landed on your foot!

My experience with people losing things is that their memory and opinions on where it must be are whack and jaded. Ask him to tell you everywhere he was on that piece of property and then use your instincts to search in areas that are not necessarily where "he" thinks it fell off.

Good luck!! I hope you find it.

Smiles!

how about map dowsing ?...Ive heard of it...maybe get me close enough to the gold to find it with my detector.....lol...anybody on here do that....or have you ever heard of people who have done it with any good results?.just an idea.....seems like if it really works....there would be alot less lost treasure out there right?....lol...guess i need to go to the dowsing dept on this site....i think i have seen a heading on that subject on here!
