Half Dollar Errors

There are 100s of errors. You might try investing in one of the good coin guides like the Red,Blue,Purple, etc. I hope that gets you started. Jim

Good advice.

But for now...... look at 1974D for doubling on the IN GOD WE TRUSTand 1982P for the lack of the initials FG nexst to the eagles leg on the reverse side.

Both of the above errors... though the most common and commonly looked for... are hard to find to the untrained error collector. Doubling is sometimes so minute that you can't spot it, or the coin is so warn down it might make you think it is doubled. As for the no FG... I tried looking for them and other errors for a box (the most I could STAND to look through... it just takes SO much longer when you go through anything more than a couple boxes a week... in my opinion anyway) and I SWORE I found a no FG... until I ran it through a nice magnification loop and saw that it was just worn away but CLEARLY WAS there at one point.

Plus in general... errors are hard to sell. Its hard enough to find dealers who will buy junk silver or bullion at fair prices... let alone numismatic premiums on clad coins. I know some of the error collectors will reply and say they get like $10 an error coin easy. But they are the exception to the rule and have simply been lucky enough to have a very nice dealer near them. Its the same thing as the people who say they get $1.10+ per Ike they bring to their dealer. I could GIVE those away to a dealer. And considering you can order them by the THOUSAND from a bank...

Lucky people with crazy dealers... lol

Good luck in your hunting one way or another and let us know how it turns out.

I wish I could order Ikes by the $1000, although I have found a few stashes I have scrape to find them usually. Though because of that, in my area I am also able to sell them for $1.10 to a dealer. Need to sell some again soon as I have around a few hundred $$$ tied up right now.

Yea... not ALL banks will order them. Two of my three banks won't but the third will. Have you looked around to all the banks in your area? Unless you are REALLY rural with only like a small CU to go to, ONE of the MANY big banks should be able to hook you up. Just make an account with them for that sole purpose.

I've asked a handful of dealers in the state if they will take them, but no luck. Out of my whole state there isn't a SINGLE REAL coin shop left... only jewlers/coin shops which is translated to jewlers/PM dealers. No clad WHATSOEVER to be found. Too bad that the coin hobby is shot... at least in my area.

I'm glad for you though that you can get rid of yours for 1.10. 10% profit per coin is NICE, especially since my banks constantly pawn those things off on me and like an idiot I take them hoping for my first silver... no such luck yet. =)
