It's a large cent, not a half cent. Nice find. Hogge

Yep..don't clean it if you aren't sure..you may destroy it,trust me:icon_thumright:

Personally I would not clean it at all, the date is already gone. It is a Matron head made from 1816-1839 if thats bothering you. They are hard to find, I made the mistake of cleaning one and made it worse than it was. Sometimes its what you don't do that makes the difference. I found two of these digging for bottles on my travels, coal ash is much nicer to copper. Great find keep up the good work and good luck on your next!

i knew that ....lol i dont know why in the world i put half cent. i have not found a half cent yet so i guess i had it on my mind .

i found this a week or so ago and its the best thing i have found so far. :hello2: should i try to clean it or leave it alone???? someone said use hot peroxide? but i dont wont to mess it up no more than it is. any suggestions?
Musta been really worn when lost. You can't do anymore damage to that, than the soil has already done. Don't worry about it. I got a whole jar full just like it,(and worse). Hogge

Nice LARGEEE!!! Do you know what leeveright is?........leeveright alone, don't clean any more. Very nice find.

i didnt clean it but i did think about it. i let it sit in water for a while but didnt use any chemicals on it.
