Went out today before the farmers spread their manure (yuck!) Found a very worn draped bust half cent. Can't make out the date, but can make out enough to see that it is of the years 1800-1808. Here's a web site to see what a good one would look like:

Wish mine looked like those.
Also found a few musketballs, one rather large one, and an old lock. Weather this week was in the 70's, but it going back down to high 30's by the end of the week. At least I got out for a while to get my fix.
I tried to scan the coin, but didn't come out good. Will try again.

Congrats on the find! Sounds like you have found a good spot to hunt...and just like with anything else...sometimes a person has to shovel some manure before they reach the good stuff! ;)

Nice finds! Tsgman

Look into the site it self, may old homesteads were in those fields . Old maps may show where the house was and finding a halfcent is a great start.....I found a site here in NY and found a half cent that was very worn and the next spring went back and it became one of my best sites ,found many large cents, early silver and one very old pistol barrel, and othere relics........Nice Post.....Good luck going back !!!!!
