I was able to get out a couple times over the weekend and found a few things. First site is a mid 19[SUP]th[/SUP] century tavern site that I have pounded pretty hard over the last year. I managed to get an 1835 half cent in decent condition, a flying eagle cent in not so nice condition, a thimble, a button, a drawer pull escutcheon, and a chain out of there.
The other site was an old iron furnace that operated from 1809 to 1826. There was later activity on the site from the early 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century up till today. I got a mixed bag of stuff from this site, including a bunch of modern coins not pictured, but the only furnace period finds were a couple buttons and a toasted large cent. One of the buttons has a nice basket weave pattern.
I like the half cent the best. I've dug at least 25 half cents over the years, but most have been Draped Bust. This 1835 is the latest date one I have found.
I'm sure I have swung over this coin a dozen times, but there is a lot of trash at this site and it was straight up and down on edge.
Another weak signal turned out to be this Flying Eagle
My brother and I spent a few hours yesterday hunting around this old iron furnace.
We were mainly finding modern coins - my first hole was a 1920-D Mercury Dime. Towards the end of the hunt I got mixed signal, opened up a hole and saw this - Big Coppa! Unfortunately it's pretty toasted.
Here are all the keepers minus the modern coins and a few other things.
