Actually Hairy John was hairy. History records that "Hairy" John Voneida was a short statured man whose body was covered in hair.
More interestingly enough, his first wife mysteriously died and in his grief he moved into the Woodward Narrows in the area now called Hairy John's Park. When he passed, he was buried in Madisonburg.
I know this I a very old post so I hope you see this, did you ever hunt hairy johns I live about 8 mile from there hunted it once found a lot of junk but would like to go back. The picture you have is awesome.
