Bought a rare and valuable record on ebay a week ago. It is one I have ALWAYS wanted. It arrived today and lets just say I was more than just a little disappointed.

Paid 3 times as much as I ever paid for any other record before. Needless to say, my expectations were high.

It was essentially described as VG+ overall. Thankfully the vinyl was fairly described and I have no complaints about it.

The sleeve, inner sleeve, and insert were all way worse than as described. I would put them all at VG and that is being generous.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling they are just going to force me to return it for a full refund. That would suck because these are so rare that they dont come up for sale very often. That being said, it is not something that can be easily replaced. Even if I get a full refund, then I am stuck trying to find another one on my own. I would actually consider that to be a huge loss in my book.

As unreasonable as it may sound, I am hoping to receive a $100 refund due to the condition discrepancies, but I highly doubt that will happen. Wish me luck.

Unfortunate the description wasn't good. Hopefully they will settle up with you! I'm not an record expert by any means but have been buying some albums and 45's lately, I like classic rock the best. I bought a PILOT brand stereo at a garage sale this year and need to put a new band on the record player then I'll get some good sound from the albums. What album was it you bought? Any other valuable ones to watch out for?

I have been buying records for quite a while and never looked at selling eny.I would like some info also on what would some be worth.

ALL:

The seller and I agreed upon a partial refund.

Do I close the case before or after I have received the refund in my Paypal account? He is saying that I have to close the case so the funds will be made available. Not sure so what to do.

I don't think that is correct. You better double check with eBay before you agree to that.

If you trust him and want the money back fast, cancelling the claim takes the freeze off and allows him to give the partial refund. The alternative, or at least one of them, is to let the claim run it's course, and because it's a partial refund Ebay/Paypal would have to review it/process it, which would take some time. I have done what the seller wants to do several times.

What I would suggest to you is have him send you a Paypal gift payment, and then you will drop the claim. There's really no reason he could give not to do this, and it is by far the easiest way to resolve it. The only difference is he doesn't get compensated for the partial fee on the initial payment, but if he gives that as a reason, just say you'll pay the extra 50 cents or whatever to get it over with! (and maybe the other 50 cents or whatever it is on his end for sending the gift)

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

I ended up "going with my gut". He has been a seller since 2004 and had a large amount of feedback at 100%. I closed the case allowing the funds to be freed up. He issued me a partial refund through paypal immediately.

The case is settled and I will leave him positive FB for being a gentleman about the whole situation.

Thanks

I still "overpaid" for the record due to its condition, but at least now I can live with it due to the $100 refund. The overall price ended up being high but still worth it, IMO, for how rare the record is and my lengthy desire to own a copy.

You can make up a bit more selling me that coin! 8-)

Unlike most of the folks on here, I do get "attached" to some of the items I acquire.

For now, the coin is one of them. If the day comes when I am ready to let it go, I will be sure to contact you.
