Had to get out

You are definitely a die hard OZ. What type of detector do you roll with? Keep lookin' for baseball fields because they can be very good... behind the fence where everyone sits and stands.

Ace 250 - get's the job done as I have found close to $700 with it. That doesn't include any silver coins or rings or the few gold rings either.

Still, once I send the M6 back to Whites to have it looked at I will then sell the POS and will get something else. I know there has to be silver at some places I hit - at one school I have found a whopping 246 quarters and 203 dimes, yet just 1 silver of each. With that much money lying around there has to be more silver!

How old is the school and how old are the dimes and quarters? You should see my stats with coin roll hunting to use as a loose comparison. I don't even try quarters because for some reason they never seem to produce very much for anyone, but for dimes and half dollars my average so far is 4.21 dimes per 2500 (or 1.69 per 1000), and 6.95 halves per 1000. So I'm trying to say that if your dimes and quarters are relatively new, there's not much chance in finding a silver among them. However, if your school is old... and you can find some old ground around it somewhere, and it hasn't been hunted to death, you just might be able to work smarter to find your silver rather than harder. Some people only hunt OLD places that don't get any new traffic, so everything there is just OLD and there's not much trash. Research is key.

I believe it went up in the early 1960's. The only silver dime I found had a cent next to it with the same mint year so I'm pretty sure they were lost back in 1964. The dime and quarter were about the limit of the 250; 7'' or so inches (the soil was very damp both times). I don't mind - trying to hit the 300 mark for quarters there, even found 3 Sacajaweas. It is a money haven :icon_sunny: Even nabbed a small diamond ring :0)

Just getting out again after this crappy winter is gonna make my week.... it's been a long time.

I have a school like that by me that I pulled 25 dollars or so out of - all clad. Got to the point I was just popping the shallow coins and ignoring deeper ones. Then I was popping a dime at one inch by a sidewalk and up came a 40's Merc. Surprised me! Either a recent drop or brought in with fill when they laid the new walk. Either way, it was a nice surprise. Never (yet) found another silver at a local school. Every once in a while you get a nice surprise.
