I was helping a friend last week and we stopped at Habitat for Humanity store to look for kitchen counter top, and closet doors. As we were walking through the store I spotted some figurines on a shelf. Never thought I would see figurines in this type of store! Bent down and looked at them and was stunned, these were no ordinary figurines, but hummels. No price tags were on any of them so I ask one of the workers how much for the figurines. His comment "Oh I don't know, how does $2.00 each sound to you". I found a box to put them in and headed to the checkout $ 25.43 cents for 12 hummels. I also picked up the counter top and a microwave for an additional $25.00. Headed over to my friends apartments we were fixing up and two hours later got a call from the wife she keeps a close eye on our bank account, and wanted to know why I had spent money at Habitat for Humanity, I told her I needed stuff to fix up the apartments (she was not happy). So then I went home and gave them to her, hey made an outstanding birthday present to the wife, so I'm no longer in hot water with the wife!
Once I got home the research started, all of the hummels were from the 1940's and 50's. All were valued at over $100.00 each. All of them were in very good shape and only one had a very small chip!

I have added pics of the hummels, later down in this thread

Wow and thanks for sharing your story kc10bull.

That is amazing!! I work at a Habitat Restore and we have someone who checks values of stuff like that carefully. The store really missed the boat on that one! congrats

Nice score on the Hummels. I haven't been to the ReStores here.

Wow! can you post a pic of them?

Nice finds but they are not all from the 1940's and 50's. Big Housecleaning didn't hit the US market till 1972 copyright of 1960 on it. If they are from the 50's then they have the TMK2 (full bee) marks. You do realize that some of those are worth close to or more than $100 a piece if that is the case? The "not for you" (boy with dog) was not introduced to the US market until 1961, but it does have a copyright date of 1955 incised on it, Just Fishing is from 1964. The Waiter is a nice one as well as, To Market and Culprit. Is the Little Tailor the old style with the 1955 date on it or the new style with the 1972 date on it? "A Fair Measure" is the new style with the boys eyes looking down and the weight reversed.

Here is a link for the date marks- Hummel Marks. From TMK-1 to TMK-8 and The Bee Mark

My wife would have never set her eyes on these, lol. Hot water, dog house or whatever! You have an easy $600 worth of Hummels there on a bad day.

Thanks, Diggummup, for the updated information. I knew they collectables, just got excited and need to go back in and do some additional research. Thanks again! I will check out the link. Have a great weekend!
