HELLO, MY NAME IS MITCHEL AND I HAVE BEEN DIGGING PRIVYS AND METAL DETECTING IN SOUTH MISSISSIPPI FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I DETECT WITH A TESORO TEJON AND A WHITES CLASSIC ID. I JUST UPGRADED TO A WHITES DFX AND ON MY SECOND HUNT I FOUND THIS GW BUTTON!!!!. WE WERE HUNTING AN AREA THAT HAD BEEN DOZED OFF AND WHEN MY DETECTOR WENT OFF I LOOKED DOWN AND THE BUTTON WAS LYING IN THE DIRT. I SIMPLY PICKED IT OFF THE GROUND. MY FRIENDS HUNTING WITH ME FIGURED THAT IT WAS A COLONIAL BUTTON BUT WHEN I GOT HOME AND CLEANED IT UP, WHAT A SUPRISE.....A FIND OF A LIFETIME!!!!!!!

That picture is MUCH better! :headbang: I thought it was quite pitted seeing the small pic, but it's actually very nice! Don't dare do anything to that one!

Congratulations on a great find. I'd be back hitting that site from north to south and east to west.

Very nice button, luck was with you to have it lying on the ground... I think what Iron Patch is trying to say is DON'T CLEAN IT AT ALL!! IP correct me if I'm wrong

I don't know if a first post can make banner but if it can this should be it.

I didn't know the rule until today, you must be a member before you can make a banner. Mitchel was not, but certainly it is a banner worthy find.

MITCHEL, WELCOME TO TNET AND HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU. Just go find another one, then you'll make banner.

Yep, it's patina/corrosion but definitely nothing worth trying the remove. If anything it looks good adding an aged look. It is well over 200 years old!

I agree ,but I always thought the patina/corrosion would eat into it over time....

It if survived that well in the ground I highly doubt it will get any worse. If mine I'd probably wax it, mostly just for the look.

VERY NICE!!!!! VERY NICE!!!! WAY TO GO
